About Test Paper — what it is, how it works, what it deliberately doesn't do
Test Paper (test-paper.info) is a Mathematics practice service for Singapore Primary 4–6 students and their parents. It does one job: show families exactly where a child stands in Maths — topic by topic, concept by concept — and then prove, with evidence, that weak spots actually got fixed.
It is free. The diagnostic, the daily practice, the mastery map and the weekly parent report are all included, with fair-use limits and no paywalled reporting.
The problem it exists for
Most Singapore parents supporting a P4–P6 child have the same experience: they know something is wrong in Maths — a slipping weighted-assessment score, a teacher's comment — but not what. Tuition and assessment books respond with volume: more hours, more questions, spread evenly over everything, including the topics the child already knows. Finding weak spots has become table stakes; several practice apps now claim it. The harder question is the one parents actually ask: is it fixed yet?
How it works
- A 15-minute check-up. The child answers questions spanning the MOE Primary Mathematics syllabus for their level. The result is a mastery map: every topic marked strong, developing, or needing attention.
- Short daily practice, aimed at the gaps. Sessions of 5–15 minutes target the weakest concepts first, at a difficulty that stretches without overwhelming.
- Retention re-tests — the part that's different. Days after a concept is practised successfully, it quietly comes back. If the child still gets it right after a gap, that's real learning; if not, it returns to practice. Mastery on Test Paper means retained, not "answered correctly once".
- A weekly report for parents. Every week, parents receive the evidence: what was practised, what was re-tested, what stuck ("4 topics re-tested this week, 3 retained"), and where the next hour of practice should go. No login needed to read it.
- Exam-readiness estimates. For P6, timed mocks in the PSLE paper format produce an Achievement Level estimate — always framed as an estimate on current form (e.g. "AL3–AL4 territory"), never a prediction or a promise.
The learning science underneath
The practice engine applies findings that are boring, replicated, and mostly ignored by exam-prep products: spaced repetition (Ebbinghaus, 1885), retrieval practice as the strongest driver of long-term retention (Roediger & Butler, 2011), interleaving of problem types (Rohrer & Taylor, 2007), desirable difficulties (Bjork, 1994), cognitive-load management in problem sequencing (Sweller, 1988), and growth-mindset feedback that names the improvement rather than the child (Dweck, 2006). None of this is proprietary magic — the differentiation is applying it seriously and showing parents the resulting evidence.
What it deliberately doesn't do
- No leaderboards or peer comparison. A P5 child's practice data is not a spectator sport, and ranking anxious ten-year-olds against each other helps nobody.
- No copyrighted school papers. Practice questions and timed mocks are original compositions arranged in the familiar formats. School exam papers are copyrighted; services built on redistributing them are on borrowed time.
- No chat tutor. Families searching for an AI maths tutor will find several. Test Paper takes a different approach: structured practice, retention evidence, and a parent report — not conversation.
- Maths only, P4–P6 only. Depth over breadth, for the years and subject where the diagnostic problem is sharpest.
- No dark patterns. No streak-shaming, no countdown timers, no artificial scarcity. The founding-member counter shows the true count.
Who builds it
Test Paper is built in Singapore by a small independent team, in touch with the syllabus as it is actually taught — the 2021 MOE Primary Mathematics sequence, school term pacing, and the WA/EOY/PSLE assessment calendar (which many parents still call SA1/SA2).
